Rey Mysterio Jr., Kidman
and Eddy Guerrero d. Vampiro and Insane Clown Posse
The match opened with each side talking smack and Rey Jr. showing
off his brand new blonde haircut. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope
were itching to show the world that they could get it done in the
ring and they didn't disappoint. Shaggy nailed Kidman with a
stiff clothesline that sent the former Cruiserweight champ
reeling. The "Filthy Animals" showed off fine tag
teamwork, nailing Shaggy with a Vegamatic and senton combination.
Vampiro showed off moves of his own, hitting a fine top rope spin
kick on Kidman. In the end, Vampiro's top rope skills backfired,
allowing Eddy Guerrero to hit a dropkick. That set up Kidman's
Shooting Star Press on Vampiro for the win.
Cruiserweight
Championship - Lenny d. Kaz Hayashi
Hayashi electrified the crowd with an incredible
dropkick/head-scissors combination to open the match. He followed
to move with an awesome suicide dive onto both Lenny and Lodi.
Once back in the ring, Lodi attempted to ground Hyashi's aerial
assault. Hyashi showed he could do it on the mat too, hitting
Lodi with a great Ligerbomb. Things seemed to be going Hayashi's
way until Lodi got involved. Kaz quickly ejected the blond
second, then attempting a victory roll. Lenny was able to counter
the move with the Memory Lane for the win.
Brian Knobs and Hugh
Morrus, with Jimmy Hart d. Shane Douglas and Dean Malenko
The First Family pulled off the upset of the night in this No-DQ
match. Revolution members Douglas and Malenko showed off some
great teamwork, hitting their opponents with a double baseball
slide. Malenko attempted to clear the ring, but was tripped up by
Brian Knobs. This gave Hugh Morrus the opportunity to hit the No
Laughing Matter moonsault for the upset win.
Television Title Match -
Rick Steiner d. Saturn
Saturn came out on fire early, but Steiner would use his
methodical style to wear down the Revolution member. Steiner held
Saturn in a single leg crablock for what seemed like an eternity,
and the move took an obvious toll. Saturn attempted to rebound,
hitting a second rope dropkick and springboard forearm. Saturn
finally got Steiner in position for the DVD. Steiner shocked the
crowd by kicking out at the two-count. With the emotional wind
taken out of SaturnŐs sails, Steiner was able to hit the top
rope bulldog for the win.
Berlyn d.
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
Buff Bagwell was a no-show for his grudge match with Berlyn.
Duggan agreed to take his place and defend the honor of the
United States. Duggan came into the match ready for action,
taking down the German with an atomic drop. Berlyn was able to
gain control with a series of European uppercuts. The match fell
outside the ring where Berlyn's bodyguard exposed the concrete
floor. The bodyguard slammed Duggan to the ground and tossed him
back into the ring. Berlyn nailed the easy prey with a
neckbreaker for the 1-2-3. After the match, Bagwell ran to the
ring. Duggan was furious and gave Bagwell a shove.
Tag Team Title Match -
Harlem Heat d. West Texas Rednecks, with Curt Hennig
Harlem Heat was gunning for a record ninth reign as WCW Tag Team
Champions. To do it, though, they'd have to get through Barry and
Kendall Windham. Barry made sure Heat didn't have an easy road,
hitting Stevie Ray with a DDT, elbow drop and clothesline
combination. Booker T got into the ring and took down Kendall
with his patented axe kick. Hennig attempted to knock out Stevie
Ray with his cowbell, but it backfired, allowing Booker T to pin
Kendall after a missile dropkick.
U.S. Title Match - Sid
Vicious d. Chris Benoit
Vicious had his sights set on an 80th straight win and the United
States title. Benoit, on the other hand, was aiming to reverse
the trend of his Revolution mates. Benoit attempted to use his
speed and power to upset the big man, nailing Sid with an awesome
German suplex. Benoit went for a crucifix, which Sid countered
into a Samoan drop. Benoit fought back, hooking in a Crippler
Crossface. Sid powered out of the hold, but collapsed to the
ground in exhaustion. Benoit went for the flying headbutt, but
Sid moved. The stunned Benoit was prone for Sid's powerbomb.
Three seconds later, we had a new U.S. Champion.
Goldberg d. Diamond
Dallas Page
Prior to the match, referee Mickey Jay discovered a chain and a
roll of quarters in Page's trunks. This prompted DDP to try and
escape through the crowd. Goldberg had none of it and followed
Page in. Once back in the ring, Goldberg dominated. The Jersey
Triad attempted to interfere, with Kanyon nailing Goldberg with a
glass plate. Page attempted the pin, but Goldberg amazingly
kicked out. Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow ran in, but were nailed by
a Goldberg double-clothesline. The momentum carried over, as
Goldberg speared Page. The Jackhammer, and victory, soon
followed.
WCW World Title Match -
Sting d. Hulk Hogan
Both men shook hands prior to the match. Bret Hart arrived to
wish both men well in the bout. Early on Hogan reminded the crowd
of his Hollywood days, biting Sting in the corner. Sting fought
back, nailing Hogan with a high cross body for a two-count. Sting
put Hogan in position for the Stinger Splash, and hit two before
missing the third. Hogan began to "Hulk Up," hitting
Sting with the big boot. Diamond Dallas Page ran in and KO'd the
referee, then hit Hogan with the Diamond-Cutter. Bret Hart ran
in, taking out DDP. Sid Vicious would then run in, only to be hit
with the Hogan boot. Lex Luger charged the ring with a baseball
bat but he was hit with the boot, also. The bat fell into the
hands of Sting who contemplated his next action. Sting shocked
the world, hitting Hogan with the bat, then locking in the
Scorpion Deathlock. Referee Charles Robinson ran in and called
Hogan out, giving the World Title to Sting! Sting and Luger
walked out of the ring arm and arm, having duped Hulk Hogan and
the world.
